The Historic Fan District Association is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the urban residential area known as the Fan District in Richmond. The historic "Fan" is a residential neighborhood of some of the most architecturally significant houses and buildings of late 19th and early 20th century located in Richmond. Located west of the Central Business District (Downtown Richmond) and Monroe Park, it includes Virginia Commonwealth University's academic campus and continues west to the Boulevard. FDA works closely with other groups like the Historic Monument Avenue and Fan District Foundation, the West Avenue Improvement Association, West Grace Street Association, Monument Avenue Preservation Society and others. Membership is open to “any individual or organization residing in or owning real property in the Fan District.” which includes parts of Historic Monument Avenue. Renters, property owners, and those whose business, church, or other organization is located within the geographic boundaries of the Fan are also eligible for membership.
