Museum & White House of the Confederacy

Museum & White House of the ConfederacyThe Museum of the Confederacy preserves the world's largest collection of Confederate Civil War artifacts and the restored White House of the Confederacy, residence of Confederate President Jefferson Davis and his family throughout the war. The Museum has three levels and four galleries of artifacts including personal effects of the major leaders, such as J.E.B. Stuart's plumed hat, Robert E. Lee's Appomattox sword, and Stonewall Jackson's revolver. Visitors to the Museum will also see the effects of the common soldier - including personal letters and drawings, and a number of wartime flags. The White House is open daily for guided tours which last about 40 minutes. Visitors to the 1818 mansion will have a chance to view the home fully restored in its wartime elegance, containing over half of the furnishings that were here when the Davis family lived here. From the guides, they will learn the stories surrounding the famous visitors to the home including Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, James Longstreet and Abraham Lincoln (after the fall of Richmond). The Museum and White House are open Monday-Saturday 10-5 and Sunday 12-5.
