It opened on Christmas Eve in 1928, the "Byrd" is named for the founder of Richmond, William Byrd II. The theater is known for its ornate interior and exterior and still has its original red velvet drapes, 5,000-crystal chandelier and an organ that rises out of the stage. The Byrd shows second-run films and you will only pay $1.99 for one of the best movie experiences in Richmond.
