Essex Concrete Corporation was started in 1965 in Tappahannock by William W. "Billy" Cooke. Essex Concrete is a key producer in the northern, eastern and western areas of Richmond providing concrete for shopping centers, schools, office buildings as well as subdivisions and residential work.
