Site and Lot
Located in the City of Richmond, the house sits at the southeast corner of Roseneath Road and Monument Avenue and adjacent to the Arthur Ashe Statue. It has an irregularly-shaped lot, approx. 1/4 of an acre and is one of the last buildable lots on Monument Avenue in the Historic District, which extends from Birch St. to Roseneath Rd. The lot was bought in the Fall of 1999 for the purpose of designing and eventually building a single-family residence on the site. On February 15, 2002, construction officially began and on December 13, 2004, the house was finished. The Owners
Janet Peyton and Chris Françoise are the home owners. Janet is a Partner with McGuireWoods LLP. Chris is an Associate Broker with the commercial real estate firm, The Wilton Companies, based in Richmond, Virginia. Chris also owns his own residential real estate firm Françoise Real Estate, LLC which specializes in the selling of homes in the City of Richmond. The Architects
The owners wanted the professional expertise of an architect to design the house. The owners provided input on their desire for quality building materials, energy efficiency, environmentally-friendly construction and the overall design of the house was left to the architects' imagination. The owners chose John "Jay" A. Hugo, AIA and Patrick Farley, AIA, Principals with the architectural firm of 3NORTH (formerly bondhugofarley architects), to design and manage the project. The firm's focus is multi-disciplinary (planning, architecture, landscape architecture and interiors) and project types include residential, cultural and specialized commercial work. 3NORTH's architectural team has displayed a great depth of talent, creativity and professionalism on the project. The Builder
After talking with a select group of builders, the owners chose Jim Dunkum, President of Dunkum, Inc. to be the general contractor on the project. Jim is a Custom Home Builder based in Richmond, Virginia and has become one of the most respected builders in Central Virginia. His firm specializes in building homes in the Richmond area including projects in Ashland, Goochland and Richmond. Jim has done a tremendous job with preparation, input and follow-through on this project. The Website
